je quitte ottawa pour quelques jours d'aventures musicales au québec: premièrement, ce soir et demain je participe (en tant qu'auditeur ainsi qu'en tant que compositeur) à l'événement l'art des bruits, organisé par érick d'orion, alias le george best de l'art audio, et tout ça se déroule à la salle multi du complexe méduse à québec; ensuite, samedi soir je présente "the plundercouncillor" (une performance djspooky-esque d'art audio canadien de plusieurs époques!) à l'abraham-martin dès 22:30 dans le cadre du cabaret audio du mois multi; finalement, lundi je suis au café chaos à montréal dès 20:00 pour l'off festival international de littérature et j'y accompagne les poètes avec ma panoplie de sons bizarres.
UPDATE! j'ai malheureusement annulé ma participation à l'off-fil pour cause de très méchante grippe mais les concerts à québec se sont très bien déroulés. des clips suivront très bientôt!

retour sur les deux conventions
oui monsieur, j'ai écouté les 4 jours de convention démocrate et les 3 jours de convention républicaine (comme j'ai écrit vendredi sur l'aggloméré cosmique: [pour les républicains] "le premier jour était consacré à gustav, leur candidat le plus convaincant jusqu'à maintenant"). à tel point que je n'avais plus du tout le désir d'en penser quoique ce soit.
c'est le columnist frank rich dans le new york times d'hier qui m'a sorti de ma stupeur post-palin. sous le titre palin and mccain’s shotgun marriage, rich articule clairement comment, quoiqu'en étant une brillante stratégie politique, cette décision de mccain est dangereusement révélatrice:
[...] the entire thing was a sham [...] he wanted to choose the pro-abortion-rights joe lieberman as his vice president. if he were still a true maverick, he would have done so.
the “no surrender” warrior surrendered to the agents of intolerance not just by dumping his pal for palin but by moving so far to the right on abortion that even cindy mccain seemed unaware of his radical shift [...] that ideological sellout, unfortunately, was not the worst leadership trait the last-minute vice presidential pick revealed about mccain. his speed-dating of palin reaffirmed a more dangerous personality tic that has dogged his entire career. his decision-making process is impetuous and, in its bush-like preference for gut instinct over facts, potentially reckless.
suite aux discours de fred thompson ("terrorists, rogue nations developing nuclear weapons, an increasingly belligerent russia [...] to deal with these challenges the democrats present a history making nominee for president. history making in that he is the most liberal, most inexperienced nominee to ever run for president"), mitt romney ("we need change all right - change from a liberal washington to a conservative washington! we have a prescription for every american who wants change in washington - throw out the big government liberals and elect john mccain") et rudy giuliani ("our opponents want to reframe the debate. they would have you believe that this election is about 'change versus more of the same.' but that's really a false choice. because "change" is not a destination ... just as "hope" is not a strategy"), il ne faisait aucun doute que la plateforme républicaine pour 2008 n'est rien d'autre qu'une dangereuse obstination à poursuivre des politiques gratuitement dogmatiques et inappliquables.
ce tableau du new tork times, comparant les mots utilisés dans les discours des deux conventions, est éloquent à ce titre:
de la convention démocrate, j'ai retenu qu'encore aujourd'hui, s'ils maîtrisent bien ce que peggy noonan appelle "this political bullshit about narratives", la manipulation efficace de talking points préparés pour les réseaux médiatiques américains reste leur point le plus faible. autrement, comment ne pas avoir préparé une riposte efficace à la nomination de palin?
parce que voyez-vous, même the economist en est capable (l'emphase est mienne):
